Customer Reviews: Like soft candlelight July 23, 2010 Ronald L. James (Little Rock AR) First and foremost, be aware this is a NIGHT LIGHT. You will NOT be able to read a book or cook or perform other focusing activities very well. This reminds me of soft delicate warm candlelight, the type you see when the wick is burned at least a 1/4 of the way down in a fat pillar-type candle.
Rated for 100,000 hours - at 8 hrs per day, this should last 34 years ........ compared to any other bulb out there, this is a no brainer as long as you want to softly illuminate a space. I have 4 lamps with these installed and I need not worry if I leave them on for extended periods. Perfect for my downstairs area that can stay 'lit' for safety, without having to replace the typical 4-watt bulbs fairly often, when kept on 24/7. As long as you understand what it is for and realize the 1 watt of energy and 100K hrs benefit, this can't be beat. I have not had as much success with the white bulbs. For me, they are still too "blue".
Using a non-opaque shade for a lamp will give you the most diffused light in a room. I have one in a room off my bedroom that I can safely navigate if I wake up in the middle of the night. Since my eyes are adjusted to the dark, it's "almost bright". That's a stretch but it is impressive. The lampshade is a transparent white but looks like old parchment with the amber glow.
Hello, it's 1 watt. November 8, 2009 E. Price (Uneeda, WV USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am only writing this review because the bulb in question cannot defend its self, although it is brighter than the two previous reviewers, it is still just 1-Watt. It is not supposed to be bright, it's 1 watt. So I am giving it 5 stars to compensate for the 1 star ratings it now has. As far as use, I guess it may be handy to put in lightsockets just to test, or maybe a long line of driveway lights that stay on all night.
Dim Bulb July 13, 2008 E. Walters (Mayfield, NY) 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
There are lightning bugs with more candle power then this bulb. Not effective as a porch light.
Very Dim October 15, 2007 W. Leonard 3 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this for a porch light. I didn't expect a lot of light, but this was dimmer than a candle. On the bright side, Amazon is easy to return stuff.
